PSI is the largest research institute for natural and engineering sciences in Switzerland and conducts research in the fields of future technologies, energy and climate, health innovation and fundamentals of nature. The technology transfer team at PSI represents the interface between research and third parties and is a door opener for collaborations with industry, SMEs or academic partners. Learn more about the technology transfer activities at PSI and about the opportunities for industrial collaborations at PSI.

15:00 Overview ANAXAM

ANAXAM is a technology transfer center for advanced manufacturing established in 2020 and provides industry access to advanced analytical methods using Neutrons and Synchrotron radiation (X-rays) particularly PSI, originally developed for basic research. ANAXAM is a valuable contact point especially for SMEs: it consults its industrial customers regarding their initial problem, carries out the respective measurement and interprets the results in a way that is understandable for the customer. In this sense, ANAXAM supports industry partners throughout the entire life cycle of their products and processes with its analytical competences, so that they can offer innovative, high-quality products on the market.

15:30 Visit of Synchrotron Light Source

The Synchrotron Light Source SLS has been successfully in operation since 2001. Researchers from PSI and from all over the world conduct cutting-edge research with the extremely bright x-ray light provided by the SLS, to investigate the tiniest structures down to the atomic level; for example to determine the structure of proteins or to study the electronic properties of novel materials. SLS is not only an important facility for basic research, but also for industry, especially for pharma companies: the share of industrial use of SLS is more than 12% (which is quite high compared to other synchrotron light sources). Novartis and Roche even have their own beamline at SLS.

PSI is currently planning an upgrade of this facility in order to yield even deeper insights and to make the researchers work more efficient – and of course, to remain among the world’s best also in the future.
